Surrealist Pen-and-Ink B&W
Project type
Black-and-White pen-and-ink surrealism
Date
1975-2026
Location
New York, Los Angeles, Rome, Brussels, Ciboure, Alicante, Saint Martin
Donaldo New York invites you into a world of pen-and-ink drawings that grow straight from the unconscious mind. Using a modified form of surrealist “automatism,” each piece begins without a plan; lines and shapes appear first, and meaning only emerges as the drawing develops. Viewers complete the imagery with their own imagination, seeing familiar forms where none were intended.
The drawings span decades, with originals dating back to 1975 and signed as “Josh” or by the artist’s given name, Don Fizzinoglia, as well as more recent works under the name Donaldo New York.
